In short: Japanese boat operators run on small boats, fixed crews and a calendar that fills weeks ahead. Book as early as you can — ideally 2–4 weeks out for a private charter, a week out for a shared snorkel boat. Last-minute is sometimes possible; we'll always try, but "Japan style" is to lock the date first and fine-tune later.
Why early matters here
- Small boats, few seats. A private fishing charter is one boat, one captain, one day. Once it's taken, it's gone. Shared snorkel boats carry a handful of groups and fill up on weekends.
- Captains plan by the week. Most captains set their schedule a week or two ahead and don't like last-minute shuffles. An early request gets a yes; a same-day request gets a "let me check" and often a no.
- Weather needs a buffer. Typhoon season (July–October) means trips get moved. If you book early, we can shift you to another day. If you book the day before, there's nowhere to shift.
- Peak weeks sell out. Golden Week (late April–early May), Obon (mid-August), and school summer holidays (late July–August) are booked solid well in advance.

What "booking" means in Japan
Japanese operators treat a date as booked only after it's confirmed in writing. So the sequence with us is:
- You message us with date, group size and trip type.
- We check with the captain and reply — during working hours usually within about 10 minutes.
- You get one confirmation email with everything in it, and a link to place a card hold (no deposit, nothing charged).
- That email is your booking. Until then, the date isn't held.
Early booking simply gives this sequence room to happen without stress.

Message us anyway. Weekdays outside peak season often have space, and we know which captains are free. Worst case we tell you straight and suggest the next possible day.
